Police said a couple from Jam Nagar in Gujarat were going to Madurai from Rameswaram in a cab, and the bus was proceeding from Madurai to Paramakudi when the accident occurred, the police said. The car driver, Ponraj (63) from Arapalayam in Madurai, and Khetani Mahesh (27), who was seated behind the driver, died on the spot. Mahesh’s wife Toral Manishbai Khetani, who sustained injuries, had been admitted to Sivagangai Government Medical College Hospital, the police said. They had gone to Rameswaram on Saturday night and were returning to Madurai after offering worship at Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple on Sunday morning when the accident occurred, the police said.
