Fresh safety issues have surfaced with the same Rolls-Royce engines Air New Zealand has fitted to its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is proposing to issue an airworthiness directive relating to Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines installed on Dreamliner aircraft. But Rolls-Royce played down the fault with a spokesman saying it is not anticipated to cause a “significant operator engine maintenance burden” and the issue will be managed through normal shop visits. In November last year it had 22 Trent 1000 Package C engines, a variant the latest EASA notification relates to. Air New Zealand and Rolls-Royce have been approached for comment.
