The Canadian government announced new immigration programs aimed at attracting young people from Hong Kong to Canada and is promising to expedite paperwork for Canadians living there to come home, CTV reports. A new expedited work permit designed to speed up the process toward permanent residency in Canada will be introduced to students and young people in Hong Kong. The new permit will be offered to recent Hong Kong graduates and those with essential work experience who want to come to Canada to continue their studies or find employment, they will also be eligible to seek permanent Canadian residency. By targeting young Hong Kongers with post-secondary degrees from Canadian and foreign universities, Mendicino said Canada hopes to bring in "the best and the brightest" individuals fleeing repression. “We are deeply disappointed that China has chosen to break its international obligations,” the foreign affairs minister added.
