Lack of sleep in the first six months after having a baby can add up to seven years to the biological age of new mothers, a study reveals. They studied 33 mothers during their pregnancies and the first year of their babies’ lives, analysing their DNA to determine their ‘biological age’, which can differ from chronological age. A year after giving birth, the biological age of those who slept less than seven hours a night at the six-month mark was three to seven years older than those who logged seven hours or more. This has been linked to serious health problems, said the study in the journal Sleep Health. The UCLA research was published in the journal Sleep Health.
