LETTERS: THE recent succession dispute for the 8th Prime Minister saw a number of youth protesting, some in favour of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who was installed on Sunday morning, while others protested in favour of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Our universities are the political hotbeds for political activism in the 60’s and 70’s. Now that the voting age is being lowered to 18, this will further empower another 3.7 million youth to become electorate for GE15, expected to be held in 2022. The whole idea of political freedom to be allowed in our universities similar to the US, is to instil critical thinking skills which also encourages intellectual debates, enhances language proficiency and develops leadership skills in our youth empowerment development process. In another way, Muyiddin can also strengthen the youth population by providing them ample opportunities for jobs, stable leadership and freedom of expression.
