Hoardings are popping up around the city, mostly from the incumbents, while a new generation of council candidates ply social media. Notably, the number of female candidates this year already outstrips the number who stood at the 2016 election. Hamilton East candidate Maxine van Oosten, who stood in the 2018 by-election, said more female candidates was a positive sign.
