A new sailing club, called Otago Secondary Schools Team Sailing, was launched last month under the umbrella of the Otago Yacht Club. On Saturday, about 15 young sailors were on hand for an open day, showcasing the new club and its fleet of 420 sailing dinghies. The new club would be open to secondary school pupils from across Otago, and was already eyeing participation in next year's secondary school team sailing national championships. Sailing was in "really good" health nationally and the focus was on ensuring secondary school sailors continued in the sport after they left school, he said.
