New cases are climbing in Arizona while most of the U.S. improves.

While most of the United States has seen a steady decline in new coronavirus cases recently, Arizona has been an outlier. The state has not been swamped with another virus wave, but public health experts are worried about a steady increase in cases and hospitalizations. As of Monday, Arizona’s daily average had climbed 21 percent in the last two weeks, tying it with Wyoming for the largest rise in the nation over that period. Only three other states reported increases of more than 10 percent in that time: Washington, Oregon and Missouri. Arizona’s daily new case load, at 10 per 100,000 people, is still below the national average of 15 per 100,000.
