The bridge has been a felt need of the villagers of Thattathimoolai and surrounding villages on one side and Saliperi and neighbouring hamlets in the other end. “We have to first pump out the groundwater in the area for laying the foundation of the bridge,” the source said. The villagers have to take a detour of an additional four km in the absence of the bridge to reach Kumbakonam Road. The total outlay for the bridge is Rs.1.10 crore, of which the NABARD has sanctioned Rs.97.60 lakh. The work is being executed on a war-footing ahead of the monsoon and the bridge will be thrown open to traffic within a year.
