Will the new American president be a gardener? It’s unlikely. Somehow, I can’t picture Hillary swapping her red pantsuits for body-hugging jeans, then squatting down to weed the White House’s now-celebrated organic vegetable garden, initiated by Michelle Obama. We’ll see him out there next spring in a jaunty baseball cap, surrounded by fetching female interns, planting heirloom tomatoes. But murderous encounters with ordinary mortals do seem, alas, to be the fate of many U.S. heads of state.
