Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo called on the international community Wednesday to have "courage" and use its "imagination" in finding a lasting solution to the war in Syria. The international community already has the "political framework" and "legal foundation" needed to end the war, Garcia-Margallo said during a U.N. Security Council session, adding that the missing element was "political will." "Courage" is needed to enforce compliance with U.N. resolutions and "imagination" is required in designing a "political process" to end the conflict, the Spanish foreign minister told the Security Council. Temporary or partial approaches will not work in Syria, where lasting, stable and wide-ranging solutions are needed to address the country's problems, Garcia-Margallo said. The Spanish foreign minister said guarantees for a cease-fire, the delivery of humanitarian assistance and political dialogue were needed to start the process of creating a new Syria.
