By the end it wasn’t too hard to see how televised football might re-emerge as a functioning entity. No noise beyond the constant muffled echo of managerial shrieking, like the sound of somebody being water-boarded in the flat upstairs. No doubt the sight of players arriving in protective gear on sparsely occupied buses will become commonplace in time. The final minutes were a kind of zombie game, played out by some tired athletes on both sides. And no doubt the Premier League, fearful of losing market share, will now look to accelerate its own return.
