Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern sought to reassure the country's Muslims after the Christchurch attack. The Islamic community feels "that we are living in the safest country in the world, we never expected anything like this could happen", he told TVNZ. It sparked outrage in the nation's Islamic community, and there were demonstrations against the move, including one that drew hundreds of participants in Auckland.
