The China New Zealand Year of Tourism is drawing to a close but it has not boosted visitor numbers from the People’s Republic. Australian visitors topped 1.5 million for the period and while US tourists were up 28,900, visitors from China, our second largest market, dropped almost 40,000. Despite more than 400,000 visitor arrivals from China last year, numbers have steadily dropped over the past 12 months. Whether total international visitor numbers will actually go into the red remains to be seen.
