A New Zealand man who killed a cat in an act of 'extreme violence' by throwing the beloved pet across a room at a backpackers hostel before bashing a woman has been jailed. Clayton Tamakehu, 35, will spend two years behind bars after he pleaded guilty to the shocking incident while living at the Geeky Gecko hostel in Dunedin in December. The cat was then hurled across the room and struck a set of metal lockers, Stuff reported. He later pleaded guilty to ill-treating an animal and assault with intent to injure. The court heard Tamakehu struggled with emotions after he suffered a traumatic brain injury suffered in 2014.
