Rugby coach and UK Metropolitan Police Sergeant Matt Ratana, originally from New Zealand, was killed in the line of duty in London. A New Zealand-born police officer killed on duty in London has been posthumously nominated by his rugby club in the Unsung Hero category at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards. Sergeant Matiu (Matt) Ratana, who served as the head coach of the East Grinstead Rugby Club, was shot when taking a suspect into a custody centre in Croydon last month.
