The group wants to address issues including pay, a lack of overtime for some staffers and health-care benefits for employees who are paid by a subcontractor and don’t receive them, according to Michele Moses, a web designer for the New Yorker involved in the organizing effort. “Everyone working full-time should have the same benefits,” Ms. Moses said in an interview. “These are fact checkers, copy editors and editorial assistants who effectively live the life of staff members without benefits.”
