The New York City Ballet has new leadership, following a lawsuit that rocked the company last year with charges that it fails to provide a safe and fit environment for female dancers. Jonathan Stafford, a ballet master and former principal dancer with the company, has been named its artistic director, company officials announced Thursday. Mr. Stafford, 38 years old, effectively replaces Peter Martins, who served as an artistic leader of the company from 1983 until his retirement at the beginning of 2018.
