New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman resigned on Monday after allegations of physical abuse by four women were reported in an article in the New Yorker magazine. "In the last several hours, serious allegations, which I strongly contest, have been made against me," Schneiderman said in a statement. Two women spoke on the record, saying Schneiderman repeatedly hit them during the course of their relationships with him in recent years, and never with their consent. A fourth woman said Schneiderman slapped her when she rebuffed him, but also asked to remain unidentified. Manning Barish said Schneiderman started getting violent a few weeks after they began dating, slapping her one night after an evening out and escalating to choking her.
