New York’s Eviction Ban Is Ending. Here’s What You Need to Know.


New York’s temporary ban on residential evictions is expiring after Wednesday. Eventually tenants will need to pay back the missed rent. If landlords already went through a court hearing to obtain an eviction warrant before the pandemic, then those notices could potentially be mailed out to tenants starting Thursday. Missed rent payments aren’t the only reason for evictions. Landlords can now begin eviction proceedings in court for reasons like lease violations or illegal activities, which were also paused under the moratorium.
