But on Sunday, City Bakery shut down, becoming the latest gourmet name to leave the Manhattan scene. Detroiters, including me, were excited at the chance to get City Bakery’s hot chocolate and pretzel croissants closer to home. Meanwhile, New Yorkers last year mourned the departure of a far older name than either City Bakery or Dean & Deluca.
