Suburban rail commuters in the Greater New York region suffered some of their worst rush-hour delays and cancellations in 2018—and for many, this year promises more of the same. NJ Transit, Metro-North Railroad and Long Island Rail Road—which together carry about 375,000 commuters into the city each weekday—struggled last year for reasons ranging from the installation of a safety system to extensive repair and upgrade work.
