The low-key rollout of one of the city’s busiest nights came amid new infection numbers that underscored the threats of in-person gatherings. The city’s seven-day positivity rate was 9.4 percent; throughout the state, the daily positivity rate was 7.5 percent. But there seem to have been few enough large parties that the secret ones were easier to find.
