Professor Chris Whitty is set to receive a knighthood in the Queen’s new year’s honour list, along with a handful of other figures who have played pivotal roles in tackling the pandemic. He will be recognised for his contributions to the UK’s fight against Covid-19, along with several other pandemic heroes, The Times reports. Mr Whitty already holds a Companion of the Order of the Bath for his services to tropical medicine in the UK and Africa during the ebola crisis. Professor Whitty is an expert in infectious diseases and is also a practising NHS consultant physician at University College London Hospitals and the Hospital for Tropical Diseases. She won the US Open soon after doing her A-levels and was named the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
