Carthon was a running back at the University of Florida in the spring of 2003 when he told his girlfriend (now his wife) he wanted to be a general manager of an NFL team eventually. He then went to the St. Louis Rams to be their director of player personnel for five years. He joined the San Francisco 49ers in 2017 and was most recently their director of player personnel. The Titans were in the playoff hunt for much of the season in 2022.
