When taxes are included, the number of weeks needed to support a family today falls relative to 1985. Instead of 39.7 weeks in 1985 and 62 weeks in 2022, the numbers are 46.4 weeks in 1985 and 44.8 weeks in 2022. Including them would further demonstrate it is easier to support a family on one income today than in the past. Though it is cheaper to support a family today than 40 years ago, it is also worth noting that it could be much cheaper still. The cost to raise a family today is a bit lower than in the 1980s, but it should be much lower.
