A new tropical depression has formed off Central America and could threaten the U.S. Gulf Coast as a hurricane this weekend, the National Hurricane Center said Wednesday. Tropical Depression 16, currently positioned off the east coast of Nicaragua, is expected to become a tropical storm overnight Wednesday, the hurricane center said. The storm could reach hurricane strength by Sunday, when the forecast track indicates a potential hit on the U.S. mainland.
