GettyTwo police forces in the U.K. have launched a cellphone detector to target drivers illegally using handheld phones behind the wheel. It can also detect the use of Bluetooth, so as not to trigger when a handsfree system is in use. Because the system cannot tell a driver's phone from a passenger's phone, it has to be a warning system only. With more than 400,000 U.K. drivers using phones behind the wheel, that's a lot of enforcement potential. That would not work where a driver is on the phone with passengers onboard, but it would where the driver is alone.
