New Manawatū tech collective determined to solve skills shortage

Manawatech chief executive Steve Pavarno says the non-profit was founded to help connect technology companies with skilled workers. A newly formed Manawatū non-profit is seeking to solve the problem of local technology and IT companies struggling to find skilled workers. The Manawatech collective was founded to support and promote the region's technology companies, and co-ordinate efforts to train and attract talent, combatting a long-term skill shortage in the industry. Graduates head to Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch with dreams of working for big tech companies like Google, Microsoft or Datacom. Many Manawatū tech companies were making a killing internationally, and almost completely unknown in their own backyard, he said.
