New Kabayan rep named, replaces Calalang

A new Kabayan lawmaker took his oath on Wednesday at the House of Representatives, replacing Rep. Ciriaco Calalang who passed away after a massive stroke. Paul Hernandez, the fourth nominee of Kabayan party-list and its new representative, has been a Cavite-based evangelical pastor since 2000. Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo administered the oath of office to Hernandez, who was with his wife and three children. As the new representative of the party-list, Hernandez said that he aimed to espouse Kabayan’s core advocacies through health services, housing programs, micro-financing for enterprises, and educational and technical assistance to children and overseas Filipino workers. Calalang, who was sworn in at the House on January 20, passed away on September 23 at the Delos Santos Medical Center where he underwent surgery.
