Japan’s Chrysanthemum Throne has a new occupant. Dressed in a tailcoat, Naruhito stood in front of the throne. “Even though Emperor Akihito has become closer to the people, the imperial household still remains distant for many,” he said. A more elaborate enthronement ceremony for Naruhito will take place Oct. 22 and will be attended by royalty and dignitaries from around the world.
