New JMB couples placed on remand

A Dhaka court has placed two New JMB couples, who were arrested ahead of their travel to Pakistan, on a five-day remand each on Thursday. The couples were remanded in a case filed under anti-terrorism act, said Inspector [Investigation] of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station Sabbir Ahmed. Earlier, Nayek Subedar Abul Hossain of the RAB filed the case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police on Wednesday night, a day after the trained members of militant outfit New JMB were arrested. The two other arrestees are Shariful Islam alias Sultan Mahmud Tapas alias Mahmud, 18, and his wife Marzia Akter Shumi, 19. A team of RAB 2 arrested Mahmud, Shumi and Aminul from a restaurant opposite to Ananda Cinema Hall at Farmgate around 12:30am Wednesday on a tip-off.
