THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) has implemented a new biometrics system to detect and stop the entry of undesirable aliens into the Philippines. Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said the new software, called Border Control Information System (BCIS), has been installed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) after it was tested in other airports across the country. BCIS is used in processing passengers entering and exiting the Philippines’ international airports. “Aside from speeding up the passenger’s processing time, the system can detect attempts by fugitives and terrorists to enter the country,” he said. It was first tested on the country’s international airports — Mactan-Cebu, Clark, Kalibo and Davao, before it was installed at the NAIA.
