After a run in the U.S., Kraft Heinz introduced Mayochup, a combination of mayonnaise and ketchup mixed in a single bottle, to Canadian consumers earlier this month. The name seems pretty logical—though some would argue ketchonnaise would be better—but in certain Cree dialects it comes off as less than appealing. “We the Cree people are laughing about it because of what it means in our language,” he told the National Post in an email. “Certainly the first part refers to excrement or feces, all across the Cree language continuum, which is going to get uproarious laughter,” she said. According to Statistics Canada, in 2016, 96,575 people spoke Cree and its regional dialects— which includes Plains Cree, Woods Cree, Swampy Cree, Northern East Cree, Moose Cree and Southern East Cree.
