As momentum builds around Samsung’s promise to release a folding smartphone during 2018, the presumptively named Galaxy X is going to have to address three questionable problems if it wants to be seen as anything other than a cute diversion from the South Korean manufacturer. We take it for granted that a smartphone should come with a camera but that wasn’t always the case. It’s easy enough to patent a folding screen but it needs to have a purpose and a story for it to sell into the market. Right now folding screen technology is in the realms of facial recognition - a nice idea but the existing fingerprint solution is fine so why change it? That’s exactly what the presumptively named Galaxy X will do when it is launched next year.
