Research by the jobs site Caterer.co.uk found pent up demand could have delivered a £15.9billion post-lockdown boost to the struggling hospitality sector. But tougher tiers mean 98% of businesses in England will not be able to trade as normal - at a cost of £7.8billion, the analysis found. Under the new rules, pubs and bars in Tier 3 areas will be forced to close except for takeaways, while hospitality venues in Tier 2 can only serve alcohol alongside a substantial meal. Customers are even banned from lingering over their drinks once they have eaten their food in Tier 2 pubs, No10 said on Friday. Punters said they would spend an average of £303 in hospitality venues in the festive period, which would have equated to £15.9billion.
