The Courts Service has pledged to introduce further measures to allow physical distancing after barristers expressed concern about arrangements at the Central Criminal Court. Bernard Condon SC, one of the country’s leading criminal barristers, took to social media to criticise the arrangements as “unacceptable”. A Courts Service spokesman acknowledged there was “a glitch in the situation” at the CCJ on Monday morning, when 13 cases were listed for mention, arraignment or trial. However, the Bar of Ireland has written to the Courts Service with a list of further concerns. In response to the concerns raised, the Courts Service spokesman said “suitable arrangements” would be in place to ensure physical distancing at the list to fix dates next Monday.
