Californians can request that all registered data brokers scrub their personal information using the state’s DROP tool. There are more than 500 data brokers currently registered, online data show. A DROP request is sent to all registered data brokers that have your personal information. At that time, data brokers are required to delete your data within 90 days. Once data brokers delete your personal information and are unable to sell it, those businesses will rely only on the information you provide them.
