Netflix is far from the only player in town when it comes to music documentaries in 2026. Witness Universal Music Group’s deal with CNN for a new docuseries digging into the major’s vaults. Well, a former limestone mine in Boyers, Pennsylvania which serves as one of UMG’s secure archives locations. CNN is promising “original recordings, master tapes, rare photos and performances, alternative album art and music videos, many of which have not been seen or heard publicly before”. The show will be part of the wider ‘CNN Originals’ slate of programming, aired on its flagship channels as well as made available to stream for subscribers.
