New Brunswick government to spend $20 million more on seniors programs

FREDERICTON — The New Brunswick government is releasing more details about next week’s provincial budget — this time for seniors. A government source tells The Canadian Press that Premier Brian Gallant will announce today that $20 million will be spent on a number of initiatives for seniors. Those initiatives include a pilot project to free-up acute care beds in hospitals by providing transition beds in special care homes for short-term patient stays. Earlier this week, the premier announced $25 million in programs to help boost youth employment. He used his state-of-the province speech to unveil plans to spend $20 million to help make businesses more competitive and to boost exports.
