New $100,000 bridge and boardwalk to be built on Lost Pond Trail

The AMC trail crew has already spent about a month and a half on site building a handicapped accessible boardwalk and a three-steel-beam bridge to span an unnamed brook near the beginning of the Lost Pond Trail. “The AMC is replacing the existing bridge with an elevated boardwalk,” Urgese said. The wider boardwalk and wood bridge with cedar handrails and steel undergirding will provide better accessibility for a broader range of user groups. Former White Mountain National Forest Supervisor Tom Wagner, who recently retired, wrote a letter of support for the project over two years ago in June 2015 to the National Forest Foundation. “The trail and associated bridge located along the first half-mile of the Lost Pond Trail are in dire need of replacement,” Wagner notes.
