MIRI: Eighty-five lives were saved last year after the Health Ministry deployed neurosurgeons to Miri Hospital on a rotational basis, says Dr Michael Teo. “Miri Hospital previously could not perform any brain surgery procedure due to the absence of neurosurgeons until a year ago when I brought up this issue to the ministry. “Within a year, 85 lives were saved through such emergency brain surgeries, ” he said. Due to a shortage of neurosurgeons, Dr Teo said the ministry could not station one permanently at the Miri Hospital. “The present arrangement is for neurosurgeons from the Sarawak General Hospital fly to Miri Hospital on a two-week rotational basis, ” he said.
