Netflix spent lavishly on its Best Picture campaign for Roma but walked away from the Academy Awards Sunday without the coveted top prize. The buzz Monday: The loss may have had more to do with how most people saw the movie, rather than movie itself. The black-and-white film that centered on a character traditionally relegated to the background — a domestic worker —captured three Oscars, including awards for best director and cinematographer presented to Alfonso Cuarón. Netflix’s chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, hailed last night’s Oscar haul — which also included best documentary short for Period. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences did not respond to Forbes’ request for comment.
