Netflix: Netflix brings Dolby Atmos support but you'll need an Xbox to enjoy it, Technology News, ETtech


Bong Joon Ho's critically aclaimed movie Okja will be the first movie to get Dolby Atmos support on NetflixNetflix has announced support for Dolby Atmos starting with Bong Joon Ho's critically aclaimed movie Okja that debuted on the video streaming service globally yesterday.The company said Dolby Atmos support will also be available for a select number of upcoming titles including the anime film Blame!, supernatural thriller Death Note, fantasy film Bright and action thriller Wheelman. "We expect the catalog to grow over time" said Netflix chief product officer Greg Peters.However, majority of users might not be able to experience this format anytime in the near future, since the number of compatible devices is extremely limited as of now.Netflix said users can experience the Atmos format only on Microsoft’s Xbox One and Xbox One S at the moment, with support for 2017 LG OLED TVs coming soon. "On the Xbox , you can get this experience when your console is connected to a Dolby Atmos enabled home theater system, TV or soundbar, or via headphones using the new Dolby Atmos for headphones feature available for purchase through the Dolby Access app in the Xbox Store" Peters said. LG OLED TVs already come with built-in Dolby Atmos capabilities. "Over time, we plan to add support to more devices, making the experience more accessible to Netflix members everywhere" Peters added.
