The energy advisor says more imports may follow in futureNepal has begun supplying electricity to Bangladesh through India’s grid, ending a six-year wait for the Himalayan nation’s hydropower to reach Bangladeshi consumers. The transmission process was officially inaugurated on Friday at 12:55pm with virtual participation from officials of Nepal, India, and Bangladesh. An official from the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh, or PGCB, confirmed that from 1:00pm, 38 to 40 megawatts of electricity is being supplied via the Bheramara grid, previously used for imports from India. The agreement involves the Nepal Electricity Authority, or NEA, India’s NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited, or NVVN, and Bangladesh’s Power Development Board, or PDB. Under this agreement, power imports will continue for seven months annually, from April to November.
