Congress leader and Health Minister Gagan Thapa who was cheered by the members cutting across party lines said “we had opposed right from the beginning when we heard he is being appointed. Our party chairman said, we could not stop him, we lost. He was referring to articles and columns written by well-known columnists in the country that a top R&AW official had lobbied for Karki, as top leaders, including the President, succumbed to it. Anuradha Thapa, member of the Nepal Mazdoor Kisan Party, said the chiefs of all the four parties must be held accountable for choosing a “wrong person”. Speaker Onsari Gharti adjourned the House for 15 days — it is to reassemble on November 10 — giving an indication that the parties need more time to consult outside.
