Bowers died in a car crash in 2017 which was ruled an accident. The death of a Nelson lawyer in a car crash was accidental, a coroner has ruled. "As Senior Constable McIntyre said, there were a number of features of the crash which were consistent with fatigue-related crashes. "The crash in which Mr Bowers died was therefore an accident." After his death, Bowers was remembered by his Nelson legal colleagues for his "larger than life personality and his generosity and his loyalty to his friends".
