Neither Gulf nor west supporting Pakistan on Kashmir issue

NEW DELHI: Pakistan's Kashmir bogey, unlike in the past, has failed to cut much ice either in the Gulf or West. While the Organisation of Islamic Conference issued a customary statement condemning the violence in Kashmir, the Gulf states which had witnessed three PM-level visits in less than a year's time, have not issued any statement so far favouring Pakistan on the Kashmir issue. This clearly indicates the eroding global support for Pakistan's decades-old campaign on Kashmir, if not a snub. In less than one year, Narendra Modi made separate trips to the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar stepping up security and economic engagements by a few notches. To further cement ties, monarchs from the UAE and Qatar visited India in the past one week. Explaining the phenomenon, a Gulf-based expert on India-West Asian affairs who did not wish to be identified, told ET that international support to Kashmir is on the decline.
