Michael Matheson's successor as health secretary has claimed the disgraced politician does deserve his £13,000 pay out after finally quitting this week. Speaking to Martin Geissler on the Sunday Show, Mr Gray claimed his predecessor had recorded "25 years of incredible public service", adding that "he has dedicated himself to public service". Mr Gray added: "He made a mistake, there is not doubt in that. The radio host then quizzed Mr Gray on whether he would have taken the £13,000 severance pay Mr Matheson has been offered for leaving his duty as health secretary. Asked is he would accept the payout in the same circumstances, Mr Gray said the question was "hypothetical", adding: "It’s for Michael to decide whether he takes that."
