BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — A retired police officer-turned-businessman was shot dead by motorcycle-riding men in Barangay 4, Silay City, Negros Occidental yesterday. Jose Lindy Chan, 64, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead on arrival at the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital, according to Maj. Rollie Pondevilla, Silay police officer-in-charge. Probers said Chan was talking to his friend when he was shot. Prior to the incident, Pondevilla said Chan, who was engaged in quarry business, received death threats. Chan was former commander of the Philippine National Police Maritime Command in Cadiz City.
